North East athletes came away with nine gold medals at this weekend's  Northern Championships at Sport City, Manchester.
Intenational Shot Putter Carl Myerscough of Blackpool also bettered Arthur Rowe's 46-year-old record for this event, by over a metre.
On Day 1, Gateshead's Richard Kilty moved up an age-group gaining a decisive victory in the Senior 100m. Gateshead's  Lauren Dewdney took the Under 20 80m Hurdles title, while Middlesbrough's Kirsty Legg gained victory in the Under 20 1500m.
The 400m Hurdles proved very successful on Day 2.
Niall Flannery of Gateshead, top Under 17 in 2007, clocked a personal best over the higher obstacles to take the Under 20 title.
Trafford's Nisha Desai retained her Senior Womens' title, while in the Under 20 event, which unfficially incorporated the Durham Schools championship, Samantha Coleby of Durham led home a North East clean sweep. The Gateshead pair of Vicki Holmes and Amy Fleming took the minor awards.
Mark Christie of Sale took the Senior Pole Vault title and Melissa Carr of Shildon won the Under 20 Womens' Triple Jump.
Karen Johns of North Shields Poly was successful in the Senior Womens' 800m.
